US (TSCA)

In the US, The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) covers control over chemical hazards to human health and the environment which are not regulated by other US Federal legislation.

TSCA is managed and maintained by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A pre-manufacturing notice (PMN) must be made to the EPA 90 days before a new chemical substance is manufactured or imported into the USA.

Substances controlled by other legislation are exempt from TSCA: pesticides, food additives, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
