Switzerland (ChemO)

In Switzerland, notification of new chemical substances is necessary with requirements being comparable to the EU REACH non phase-in substance registration requirements, in accordance with Swiss Chemical Ordinance (ChemO).

Notification is required prior to placing a substance on the market in Switzerland at or above 1 tonne per year with subsequent threshold levels at 10, 100 and 1000 tonnes per year and varying data requirements at each volume threshold.

Compliance in the EU does not constitute compliance in Switzerland; as a sovereign nation and not a member of the EU or the EEA, registration in Switzerland is separate from any other area of Europe and the supply volumes are distinct to supply in Switzerland. Application is made using IUCLID V and a pre-registration enquiry is required (analogous to the REACH Article 26 enquiry) prior to embarking on the regulatory process to confirm whether the substance has been notified in Switzerland.
